Evidently, according to UNESCO and the Guinness World Records, the oldest university is in the Muslim world. This is the first institution namely the Al-Qarawiyyin University, which is located in the historical city of Fez, Morocco. It is in fact the oldest continuously functioning university, and the first degree-awarding educational institution in the world. It was founded by a wealthy lady, Fatimah al-Fihri,in the year 859 – one hundred years before the foundation of a more widely reputed Al-Azhar University. Many people know this fact. But few realize that since its founding, Qarawiyyin has always opened its doors not only men but also to women.
Among the notable VIPs present at WICULS 2016 were Prof Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad, USIM Vice Chancellor: Dr. Ahmed Kawesa Sengendo, the Rector & CEO of Islamic University in Uganda who is also Member of ICIFE Eminent International Advisory Board. Other ICIFE delegates were Prof Dr. Fauzias Mat Nor & Dr. Mahazan Abdul Mutalib of USIM and Dr. Haji Zulkifly Baharom.
